Treasure Island, Florida
With
a population of over 7,142, Treasure Island is beautifully located
between the Gulf of Mexico and the Intracoastal waterway. This
community is one of the Tampa Bay's originals.
Beach
activity and water sports are plentiful. For those who prefer land, the
Treasure Island Golf, Tennis & Recreation Center
offers a 9-hole par-3 golf course overlooking the intracoastal, 6 clay
tennis courts, 2 asphalt tennis courts, one beach volleyball court and
much more.
The
barrier island community known today as Treasure Island enjoyed an
early history that included pirates, Indians and buried treasure. The
Timucuan Indians, known as mound builders, lived on what is now the
Pinellas Peninsula and its adjacent barrier islands. A Timucuan burial
mound was found on Camp Key, which is now the home of the Key Capri
condominiums in Treasure Island.
